Non-PCB Ballasts

After 1980, ballast were no longer manufactured with PCB’s greatly reducing the environmental impact of these electronic devices. However, studies have shown that the replacement to PCB’s, di (2-ethylhexyl) phthalate also known as DEHP even at small concentrations can still cause ill affects on certain organs. DEHP is a known hazardous substance and landfilling Non-PCB/DEHP lighting ballasts does potentially expose you to superfund liability.

Ballast recycling is another assurance of our high standards of environmental protection. The Battery Recycler can help your company recycle even non-PCB or DEHP lighting ballast. Metal components from the ballast such as copper and steel are collected for recovery and reuse.

PCB Ballasts

Fluorescent ballasts manufactured prior to year 1980 contain Polychlorinated Biphenyls, commonly referred to as PCB’s, which do not biodegrade and are classified as a hazardous waste. Ballast recycling is another assurance of our high standards of environmental protection. Metal components from the ballast such as copper and steel are collected for recovery and reuse. The PCB-containing capacitors and any PCB-contaminated asphalt potting material are thermally destroyed at a permitted facility.

Dispose of your Ballast safely
